# Tactical Cogitator: Product and Method Summary

## Purpose

Tactical Cogitator is a free-beta Warhammer 40,000 damage calculator for
11th Edition matchups. It runs 10,000 simulated attack sequences from the
profiles and assumptions selected by the user.

The output includes average damage, models removed, wipe chance, percentile
thresholds and outcome distributions. The selected profiles, phase, modifiers,
Army Rules and situational controls define each simulation.

## Main workflow

1. Configure an attacking unit and its enabled weapon profiles.
2. Configure the target's toughness, saves, wounds, model count and keywords.
3. Select the relevant shooting, melee or combined phase.
4. Enable applicable weapon abilities, modifiers and Army Rules.
5. Run the simulation and review the distribution, not only the average.

Example matchups can populate the calculator immediately. The Quick Damage
Check can use an example matchup or manual entries without an account. Unit
Search loads current attacker and target data after free-account sign-in.
Roster import can parse pasted Warhammer app lists or New Recruit exports and
shows the proposed matches for review.

## Implemented mechanic groups

The controls include mechanics for:

- fixed and dice-based attack or damage values
- hit and wound rerolls
- critical hit and wound thresholds
- Anti-Keyword, Devastating Wounds, Lethal Hits and Sustained Hits
- Rapid Fire, Melta, Twin-Linked, Torrent, Blast, Cleave, Lance and Heavy
- Feel No Pain, invulnerable saves, cover and damage reduction
- selected conditional modifiers and visible Army Rule toggles

These visible control groups let users configure the selected matchup and its
relevant battlefield conditions before running the simulation.

## Comparison and table tools

Comparison evaluates multiple attackers against multiple targets using the
same simulator. It can show raw damage, kills or point efficiency, identify
strong and weak target assignments, and create a Matchup Brief from evaluated
results.

The Recommended Firing Plan applies a greedy heuristic and recommends a target
for each unit based on the selected metric. At the Table presents saved roster
matchups and that recommendation as a compact reference. Matchup Brief
links contain the selected evaluated assignments and their stated assumptions;
they do not expose account details.

## Accounts and stored data

An account is optional for the core calculator workflow, including manual
entries and example matchups. A free account enables Unit Search, full roster
import, saved attacking and defending profiles, roster sets, logbook entries
and account-scoped preferences.

The account page provides data export and account deletion. Product
measurement is controlled separately from optional analytics consent as
described in the privacy notice.

## Price status

Every current feature is free during the beta. Tactical Cogitator does not
currently offer a subscription or accept payment. Existing payment-related
implementation is inactive and does not define a public offer.

## Progressive Web App

Tactical Cogitator can be added to a device as a Progressive Web App. The
service worker supports the public app shell and an explicit allowlist of
public API responses. Account-scoped API responses are excluded from the
shared runtime cache.
At-the-Table content is available offline after the page and roster data have
been loaded once online.

## Languages

The main calculator interface uses English Warhammer terminology. Public help
and FAQ content provide English, German, French and Spanish variants. Legal
pages provide English and German routes.

## Data source and affiliation

Unit Search uses a pinned revision of the community-maintained
game-datacards/datasources 11th Edition feed and maps those records into the
calculator model. Imported values can require review when source schemas or
rules change.
